Official Base Bridge vs Across vs Stargate which to use
You have money on Base. You want it on Ethereum mainnet. Or maybe you want to move USDC, ETH, or some other token from another chain into Base. The question is which bridge to pick.
The official Base Bridge is the simplest option, maintained by the Coinbase team that runs Base. It charges no fees beyond gas. That sounds perfect. But there is a catch: withdrawals from Base to Ethereum take about seven days, because the bridge uses a fraud-proof system that needs a challenge window. If you are not in a hurry, it is the cheapest route.
Across Protocol works differently. It is intent-based: you submit a transfer request, a relayer fronts the funds on the destination chain, and the relayer collects a small fee for that service. The result is fast - usually minutes. Across supports ETH, USDC, and a few other assets. The fee is not zero, but it is often competitive with gas costs on alternative bridges.
Stargate is an omnichain liquidity network using a single pool per asset across multiple chains. This design means deep liquidity for stablecoins and ETH, and Stargate can move larger amounts without significant slippage. It supports many chains, not just Base and Ethereum. Fees are variable and depend on pool utilization.
Hop Protocol, a liquidity network built around hTokens and bonders, works well for ETH and USDC. Hop has been around since 2021 and has a track record. The bonders provide fast transfers in exchange for a fee; the fee structure is transparent on the Hop frontend.
Which bridge for which use case
Cheapest. The official Base Bridge costs nothing beyond gas, which is hard to beat, but you wait seven days. If time has no value to you, this is the correct choice.
Fastest. Across and Hop both settle in minutes. Across tends to be marginally faster because relayers compete on speed. For most users the difference is negligible.
Safest. Safety is about trust assumptions. The official Base Bridge relies on the Base sequencer and the Ethereum settlement layer - you trust the Base team to run the sequencer honestly. Across uses a network of relayers and a smart contract that enforces the intent; you trust that the contract logic is correct. Stargate uses LayerZero's oracle and relayer, so you trust two independent parties not to collude. Hop uses bonders who stake capital; if a bonder cheats, their stake is slashed. There is no universal answer. Each model has different failure modes.
Best for large amounts. Stargate has deeper liquidity pools than Across or Hop, so for transfers above a few hundred thousand dollars Stargate is likely the better choice. The official Base Bridge has no liquidity constraint but forces the seven-day wait.
Best for tokens. The official Base Bridge only supports ETH. Across supports ETH, USDC, USDT, and DAI. Stargate supports USDC, USDT, ETH, and several others depending on the chain. Hop supports ETH, USDC, USDT, and MATIC. If you need to move a non-stablecoin ERC-20 that is not ETH, none of these four may work; you would need a different bridge.

The token SALUKI launched on Base on June 2, 2025, trading on Uniswap with one pair. As of August 31, 2026, the pool held about $3,625 in liquidity, with daily volume of $1.10 across six transactions. The fully diluted valuation was about $4,476. The liquidity is thin. If you hold SALUKI and want to move it to another chain, none of these bridges support that token. You would need to swap to ETH or USDC on Base first, then bridge.
Bottom line
The official Base Bridge is cheapest but slow. Across is fast and cheap for small to medium amounts. Stargate handles large amounts with deep liquidity. Hop is a solid middle option. Superbridge helps you compare without visiting five sites. Choose based on whether you value speed, cost, or amount most.
